On the plate: Not much made from home, that's for sure! (Will fill you in down below.) However, I did manage to make some
Rice Krispie Treats
Soundtrack to cook to:
Michael Jackson's Number 1s
I'm baaaaaaaaaaack!! Oh goodness gracious, I do apologize for my lengthy vacation from the blogarino. However, I have a very good reason. On February 14, 2012, my husband and I discovered that we were happily expecting our second child!! What a wonderful Valentine's Day present, indeed! However, unfortunately, with the pregnancy, came the not-so-pleasant first trimester pregnancy symptoms. Boy, oh, boy did they hit me like a ton of bricks!! I didn't feel that great with Alexander's pregnancy; however, I was not prepared with what this second child had to offer. I don't know WHY they call it "morning sickness" because I had 24/7 sickness!! I was nauseous all....day....long and was incredibly tired as well. AND to make matters worse, the smell of food cooking in the house sent me dry heaving to the bathroom! *Apologies for the visual* Needless to say, we had almost four months of either eating out or ordering in. This may sound great, but it really wasn't, because what I was able to stomach one day, made me completely nauseated by even the SIGHT of it the other day. During that time, we had both families visit and a huge thank you to everyone for putting up with me and my quirks during that time. I know it wasn't easy.
Now that I'm in my second trimester, I'm finally starting to feel better at 18 weeks. It's been a loooooong 18 weeks, and I'm glad we're out of the woods. Hopefully *knock on wood*, this nausea won't come back with a vengeance in the third trimester. I personally need a break and don't necessarily want to eat a small cup of yogurt for dinner every night (forced down, I might add).
So here's a *not so quick* photo catch up from February and March, as well as a little photo session of me and Alexander making rice krispie treats (it was one of my cravings...I ate 2 little squares out of the whole pan...because after that day, the sight and smell of them made me sick....my cravings made no sense and only lasted the day).

| Alexander at the Museum of Science in Boston - checking out the electronic fish. |
| Alex LOVED the gecko exhibit. |
| "Zizzards!!" is what he kept chiming throughout the gecko exhibit. |
| "Hello lion and brown bear!" Brown Bear is one of Alex's favorite books. |
| Checking out one last exhibit. |
Alex's Passover gifts this year: Two books and a hopping matzo ball...
you can guess which present was his favorite. :) |
Preparing for Passover - Normally I would cook for this, but I was so
incredibly nauseous that we got dinner catered from a local restaurant called Zaftig's
(one of our personal favorites). |
| Yummy potato latkes and delicious matzo, spinach, and cheese casserole. |
| Joseph lighting the candle while Alex munched on matzo in the background. |
| As you can tell - Alex LOVED the chocolate caramel matzo for dessert. |
Time for and Easter egg hunt!! Unfortunately the weather was pretty
rainy and cold, so we decided to have the Easter egg hunt indoors. |
Alex LOVED running around the living room looking for eggs that
were filled with rainbow goldfish, some chocolate, and various stickers. |
| Uh oh! Hands are full - gotta unload and go back for more! |
| His Tita Kristen helped him find some of the eggs as well. |
Alex, checking out his Easter basket full of treats from Grandpa and Mama B
(with big brother Oscar checking out the goods as well!). |
| Joseph, Kristen, and Alex looking through the whole Easter basket. |
This pregnancy was very different from Alexander's pregnancy, as I said before. With Alex, I didn't have cravings - I had aversions. With this baby, I've had cravings that only last a day basically. One day, I REALLY wanted some rice krispie treats. Thus, I looked up the recipe and bought brown rice cereal (Hey...I've got to make it remotely healthy, right?) and enlisted Alex's help, since the recipe wasn't too difficult.
| Little Alexander, ready to help mommy bake! |
Alexander enjoyed putting the marshmallows in the pot...one-at-a-time.
This took a while, but he loved it. |
He tried to do the same with the rice cereal - adding one at a time - but
I was growing impatient and didn't want the marshmallows to burn. So,
I helped him dump the brown rice cereal into the pot and started to stir. |
Once the marshmallows and cereal have combined, spread the mixture
evenly into a greased 9x13 casserole dish. |
| Alex, examining his rice krispie creation. |
| Alex taking a bite! He LOVED it! |
| Oscar also enjoyed the rice krispie treats. :) |
Playing around and being silly.
Checking out the snow...we didn't get much this year and I,
for one, am NOT complaining!
Enjoying his snack time at home.
Playing around the Museum of Science

| Before haircut... |
| and after haircut...it was shoooorrrrt! |
More snack time cuteness
Playing around with Mommy's Nook - I've definitely slowed
down on this since I took a shower and came back to find
that he had purchased two new books. Yikes!!
| Finally! Some warm weather!! |
Alexander playing with his favorite piece of playground equipment - the steering wheel - and BOY is he possessive of it! He guards it like it's his own and heaven forbid any other child should try to play with it. |
| Cool guy getting ready to tool down the road! Watch out world! |
| Gathering sticks - another one of his favorite things to do outside. |
Alex with a tell tale chocolate mustache - a tasty leftover from a delectable dessert from Orinoco. |
Please bear with me as I continue to update the blog with pics. I promise I'll get back to more regular post - barring any complications (as my dad would say). Until next time...
Love and kisses,
Nikki

ReplyDeleteAnd congrats on that new baby!
Oy! Sorry that I'm just replying - as I just saw it for the first time! You're too sweet! Thanks Court! I did drop off the face of the virtual world for a little bit - as I was sick as a dog for about 5 months. Yikes! This pregnancy was MUCH different than Alexander's. Did you experience this? Thank for the kudos - we're very excited!
DeleteBtw, I love your book recommendations on your blog! I can't wait to check out some of the titles!
