10 Month Old, Guacamole, L'Shana Tovah!, Noodle Kugel, SOWA, and Playing Around

On the plate:  Noodle kugel and guacamole...a truly winning combination.  LOL!!

Soundtrack to cook to:  This week, Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines is on repeat.  I know what the song is about, but whenever the boys hear the song, they drop what they're doing and start to dance!  I love it!
Ladies and gentlemen....we officially have a 10 month old!!
(You wouldn't believe how difficult this picture was to take...
he was Mr. Wiggleworm.)

Ten month stats:
Weight:  23 lbs 5 oz
Abilities:  He's cruising and starting to take steps to walk.
  • He has six teeth (two on top and four on the bottom) with two more on the top coming in.
  •  He's starting to eat real foods like cut up grapes, bananas, watermelon,  and Baby Bel cheese.
  • He's making the sounds "Duh-duh-duh," and, "buh-buh-buh."
  • He's starting to wave when saying, "Hi," and, "good bye."
See what I mean?  He was determined to grab the sign.
I tried to give him something to distract him, but then he stopped
making a smiley face.  He's pretty naughty, but so stinking cute!
See what I mean?  Look at that little smirk.
It's like he knows he's SO cute!
We recently went to a local market that has incredible produce.  We kind of went crazy with buying lots of vegetables, so I decided to whip up some guacamole.  It's super easy to make and has lots of great flavor.  Plus, it's an Alton Brown recipe!  (If you're a Food Network fan, that is....I know I am!)

In a medium mixing bowl,  mix the following ingredients:
1/2 onion, diced
1/2 red bell pepper, diced
2 Roma tomatoes, diced
1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and diced
1 clove garlic, finely minced
1 tbsp cilantro, chopped
In a separate bowl, place 3-4 avocados along with the juice of 2 limes.
Mash the avocados to bits!  I handed the avocados over to Alexander
and he had a field day!
Alexander was very excited to be my sous chef.
He was very proud of himself and did a great job of mashing the avocados.
Once the avocados are mashed, mix them together with the other
bowl of vegetables and add the following ingredients:
1/2 tsp kosher salt
1 1/2 tsp cumin (I like it a little smokey)
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper

It takes no time to make and is really super delicious!
Alexander gobbled this up!
Ever since William started crawling, Alexander has been following
him around the house on his hands and knees as well.  It's really
cute to watch William leading the way and Alexander following.
Too funny!  If you look at William's face...it's like he knows what he's
doing to Alexander.  HA!
I had to take this picture of Alexander playing.
He said, "Look mommy!  The dinosaurs are cuddling."
What a little darling.  :)  Warms my heart.
On one of our adventure days, we went to the New England aquarium.  Out of all of the exhibits, the ultimate favorite for both of the boys was the HUGE central tank with all of the sea creatures.
The boys could have stayed here all day.
They were absolutely fascinated.

William, having his first bite of Mini Baby Bel cheese.
*Sigh*  Our little guy isn't so little anymore.  :(

He loves to make his way around the living room.
He crawls and cruises everywhere!
Look at our little dare devil!  Here's Alexander
scaling the rock wall at another local park, in style
I might add!
My sister and mom have been telling me about this outdoor market that happens every Sunday in Boston.  It's called "SOWA" (South of Washington) and has a farmer's market, artist booths, clothing, crafts, and most importantly, FOOD TRUCKS!!!!  I've been dying to go, and since it was a semi-decent day, we went last weekend.
They have amazing produce, I got an adorable dress from the Fashion Truck, some awesome cold brewed coffee from Mojo Coffee, and the best short rib and caramelized onion grilled cheese sandwich that I've EVER had in my life!  Needless to say, you can find me at SOWA with the boys every weekend!  Even Alexander loved the place!  Can't wait to go back!
Me and the boys amongst the food trucks at SOWA!
Kristen and William playing around at SOWA.
Exciting news!  Our garden is yielding product!!
If you seriously saw the size of our "garden", you
would laugh out loud and be astonished that we could
grow anything from the small stretch of land.
Thus far, we've grown 5 snacking peppers,
1 cucumber, and 13 cherry tomatoes.
We've got quite a few beefsteak tomatoes, but they're still green.
Woo hoo!
Oh my goodness!  Slow down!  Now our big guy is
drinking out of a sippy cup!

William Billiam is starting to wave, "Good bye."

Oh my goodness!  He's eating grapes!

Snuggle time with our cheeky panda!
Love this little guy!
Since it was so nice outside and I had some time to kill before dinner time (and Joseph wasn't home), I decided to take all three boys (Alexander, William, and Oscar) to our old stomping ground.  We played at Larz Anderson Park.
This is one of Oscar's favorite places to play.  Can you tell?

Alexander has been missing Joseph, since he
started his new schedule.  (Thank goodness it's only
this bad for a month.)  While Alexander was taking
his bath one night, he set up these frogs in the bathroom.
He said, (from left to right) "Here's a mommy frog, a
daddy frog, and an Alex frog.  They're a frog family."

Lol!  Too bad he conveniently forgot about William and Oscar. :)
L'Shana Tovah!  Happy Jewish new year!!  I was feeling ambitious this year and made a brisket, apple cake with honey drizzle, brussels sprouts, and tried my hand at a kugel for the first time.  I also picked up a whole wheat challah from a local bakery that makes the most amazing challah.

As I was cooking, I checked in the living room to find my
darling men snuggling together.  How sweet.  :)
Cook 8 oz of yolk free egg noodles for about 5 minutes.
Mix together the following ingredients in a medium bowl:
1/2 stick butter, melted
1 lb cottage cheese (I used the no fat kind)
2 cups sour cream (I used 0% fat Greek yogurt and it turned out great)
1/2 cup raw sugar
6 eggs
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 cup raisins
Once the noodles have cooked, mix them together with the
custard batter and pour the ingredients into a greased 9x13" baking dish.

Then place the dish into a 375 degree F oven and bake for 45 minutes.
Oh my heavens!  It's like bread pudding, only instead of bread, it's
egg noodles.  This dish is best served warm and is the perfect
combination of sweet and salt with a little crunch.
One of our adventure days this week was to go to the Israel Book Shop in Brookline (my favorite place to stock up on things for the holidays).  We got the boys some books (because that's the teacher in me) about Rosh Hashanah and a play Shofar (ram's horn to announce the new year).  I love these celebrations and starting new traditions with the boys.

Here's Joseph reading the Sesame Street Rosh Hashanah book
to the boys.

Alexander loved this time, reading books with Joseph.

Here's Alexander blowing into the Shofar with
gusto to announce the new year.  A sweet one at that!
One of my favorite videos of all!  Whenever the boys
hear this song, they drop what they're doing and immediately
start to dance.  It's hilarious!  These guys crack me up.

L'Shana Tovah to all!  May the new year be sweet and prosperous.  Until next time...

Love and kisses,
Nikki
