Halloween, First Dental Check Up, and Lots of Fun!

Ok...I'm still in October.  I'm a very organized person (OCD...yes, most definitely) and am task-oriented and cannot bring myself to do the present day posts and then back track.  I'm sorry, it just doesn't make sense to me and I would obsess over getting caught up that I would do 12 posts in one day and get no sleep.
Enough with my neuroses....*sigh*.
:-)
We got so many pumpkins this year without actually having to go out and buy them!!  Alex got 2 pumpkins when he went to a pumpkin patch with his daycare.  He got another one from a birthday party as a favor (which I thought was very practical).  So, I just stopped by the local Whole Foods and picked up one more so that we would have enough for each one of our family members.

Here's Joseph, hard at work carving the pumpkins while the boys
watched excitedly.

Joseph had to represent our Boilermaker pride by carving a Purdue "P".
Oscar made himself comfortable by the fire while Joseph did the hard work.
William wanted to dive into the pumpkin goop
but was very cautious.

Pumpkin carving fun! :)

William, at 11 months old, felt it
necessary to play with Joseph's lips at this time.
Very cute :)
I think he pulled a little too hard.  LOL!
Here we go!  The Franses family pumpkins of 2013!
Alex said he wanted a silly-faced pumpkin, so I carved the smaller
one on the right.  Then, he said he wanted a scary-faced pumpkin,
so I carved the smaller one on the left.  Alex was then too scared to
look at the scary-faced pumpkin.  What a funny guy!  He was terrified.
Well, I guess I did a good job, huh?

Now that we're done carving pumpkins,
it's time to "WRASSLE!!"  (Yes, I realize
I spelled it differently, but I wanted to
highlight the special way that we pronounce
the word "wrestle.")  We like to "WRASSLE"
in our home.  :)

One day during October, William was taking a longer nap than Alex, so I decided to seize that opportunity and make caramel-covered apples with our big boy.  (Yes, we are still blessed that both boys take naps in the afternoon at the same time!!  It's nice to get at least a 1 1/2 hour break in the afternoon.)
I feel that an entire caramel apple is too much to eat in one sitting,
so I decided to cut the apples in half and stick popsicle sticks in them.
Plus, the popsicle sticks are more kid-friendly than the sharp-sticked skewers.
I dipped the apples in caramel and placed them on parchment paper.
Then, Alex got to decide if he wanted to put on sprinkles or chocolate-
chips on each apple.  He loves to help me in the kitchen.
He takes his job very seriously.  :)

I went to clean up something quickly, turned around and found
that Alex had taken many liberties of dipping into the chocolate-
chip stash for himself.  How do I know this??
Because little man had chocolate chips all over his face...specifically
his eyes! :)  The little stinker!
Alex couldn't wait any longer and had to dig into an apple right away!

The apples turned out great!  However, the cut-side of the apple does get a little wet after more than one day.  The taste is still really great, but you may need to wipe off the cut-side apple before eating.

Here's a little fall fun!

On Halloween day, we prepped all of the candy
for the trick-or-treaters.  We bought
a bunch of candy from Costco and mixed
them all up.
Here's Alex giving an, "Oh my goodness!"
look regarding all of the candy.
We put out our pumpkins and decorated
our front porch in preparation for the
trick-or-treaters.  Alex loves decorating
the house for every holiday.  I love that he loves that!
I guess it's the teacher in me, but I love to
decorate the house for every holiday!
Here's both boys sitting on our front porch
and getting ready to celebrate
William's first Halloween!
(This picture was 1 of about 45 that I had
taken...both boys were quite wiggly and it's
tough to get them to both look at the camera.)
When we were at Target, Alex wanted to buy
EVERY SINGLE decoration.  As a compromise,
I let him pick one and it could be anything he wanted.
He surprised me and picked a pretty cool decoration.
He chose a purple, light up spider web with orange
spiders on it.  It looked pretty cool at night.
Way to go, Alex!  Good pick!  (Which is funny
because he's terrified of spiders!)  Go figure?
HA!  Here's Oscar in his costume for
Halloween.  He was a "horse" with a jockey
on his back.  We get him a new costume each
year.  He's not a huge fan of them, but he
looked pretty hilarious running around
with the jockey on his back in the house.
On Halloween, Alex and William's school had a small party.  They were supposed to have a parade, but unfortunately it was raining, so they just had a party in the afternoon.
Me and my little Cookie Monster William :)
(Alex picked out the costume.)
After the school party, William, Alex, and I went over to our dear friend's, the Hearnes, house to do a quick dinner with the kids.  Then afterwards, we took the kids, and met up with our other dear friends, the Hegdes, and went trick-or-treating in our old neighborhood.
William (Cookie Monster), Lucy (Mermaid),
and Alex (Super Grover - he also picked out
his own costume.  Definitely a unique choice!)

I love William's chubby little face in this picture. :)
Me and the boys!
Arhan also dressed up as Cookie Monster this year :)
Here's the kiddos trick-or-treating.

My dear friends Kate (holding dinosaur-
baby James), and Roshni!
Love these ladies!
All four of our kiddos (who could walk at the time):
Alex (Super Grover)
Lucy (Mermaid)
Arhan (Cookie Monster)
and Sanders (Spider Man)

Happy Halloween from our munchkins!
Joseph got home later that evening, so he decided to stay home and hand out candy while I was with the boys in our old neighborhood.  Then, we headed back home so that Joseph could take the boys trick-or-treating in our new neighborhood.
Joseph, with our little Sesame Street characters.
Something was pretty funny!

After Halloween, we decided that since Alex was already 3 1/2 years old, that he should probably have his first dental check-up.
I had done some research and found a pediatric dental office that was 2 miles away from the house and got great reviews.
Here's Alex in the waiting room.  He
was in the middle of watching the movie Cars.
I could've stayed in the waiting room all day!
It even had old-school arcade games!
What kid wouldn't want to come to this place?
Mommy and Alex selfie :)
He was so excited, and I was so proud.  :)
They gave him some special glasses.  He loved it!
The dental hygienist was incredible with Alex.
She was so sweet, gentle, and explained everything
that she did and let Alex explore each tool.
He had such a great time.
Even the tooth cleaner was adorable!!
It was shaped like a penguin and she let him
touch it.
Little man in action!
He survived!  I was welling up with pride.
Another milestone.  *sniff sniff*
After his teeth were cleaned, the dental hygienist gave Alex a little dragon that had teeth.  Then, she asked him to practice brushing the dragon's teeth.  I thought that was so awesome!  Alex got a real kick out of it.
Alex was very thorough in cleaning every,
single, tooth of the dragon.  :)
Afterwards, we stopped by the mall so that he could go on a quick ride.  Then, after that, we had a nice lunch at a local diner before we had to go to school to pick up William.  We had a lovely morning together.
He had a really great morning.  :)
Now here's a collection of us playing around, inside the house, and out:

The boys, wrasslin'

We went to the lunch at Boston's seaport, and then decided to walk around and look at the ships for a little bit.  We passed by one and noticed that there was something flying off of the side of the ship and birds kept scrambling to get what was in the water.  We walked a little bit further and saw a man cleaning some fish.  Alex then said, "Look Daddy!!  A pirate ship and there's a pirate!!"  The man thought that Alex was very cute and asked Alex if he liked fish.  Alex said, "Yeah!!  I DO!"  (He really does.)  The man said, "Ok, hold on one second!"  He finished fileting a fish, put it in a Ziploc bag, and threw it up to Joseph!  The man gave us this beautiful (yet we were unable to identify it), fresh filet of fish!!  (I joked and told Joseph that this should be our act and we could just do it every weekend.  Ha! Ha! Ha!)
Joseph and Alex with our fresh "catch" :)
We used the fish in hot pot that evening!
Thank you, very generous fisherman!
Our happy and mischievous boys

The boys, playing around in Home Depot.
They're both very mischievous.
Ugh...they know they're cute.  They use this
to their advantage way too often.  :)

"YARRRRR!!"  Pirate Alex!  He loves to dress up.

Little man William, cruising around the house.

William, collecting all of the markers from
the easel and then preparing to disperse
them all over the basement.
Daddy and William play time :)
William, standing and preparing to take a few steps :)

Bath time fun with William Billiam!
Play time in the basement while big brother
finishes taking his nap!
He enjoys the alone time with mommy.

Big William, being as cautious as possible.

Our happy little guy :)
Playing around.  Our cheeky little panda!
Mommy and boys snuggle time on our
snuggle couch!  :)
Love these boys! :)
Alrighty.  I'm getting there slowly but surely.  I understand that this post is recipe-free, but I had to let everyone see these adorable Halloween pictures!  No worries, friends, the recipes will come soon and there's some good ones!  Until next time...

Love and kisses,
Nikki
